Holderness Hi-Siders Christmas Party

At the 'Haven Arms' Hedon Haven.

Hello. And welcome to the 'Holderness Hi-Siders and Lo-Riders 'Christmas Party 2007'. One thing that makes this a little unusual is this happened on the evening of Saturday 12th January 2008. But still, it's the christmas party that ends a year of biker events and opens the next year to even more. Last years theme was James Bond (Bond and Villains) which I donned a home made outfit, fake eyebrows and shoe polish and came as 'Hugo Drax' who for those not quite familiar with the James Bond movies, was the bad chap from the movie 'Moonraker'. I was stupid enough to leave the camera at home that time but not this year. And hopefully, for those at this years party, I didn't annoy with my photo taking. Hopefully, If invited, I'll be taking the camera to all 2008 events for a full write-up on this years events and antics. And by the looks of it, Sally is keen on buying yet another tent for the coming years events. So hopefully, I'm invited to the events in 2008.

This years theme was the 'Wild West'. The majority guessed correctly and donned cowboy/girl and indian outfits but one or two members came in strangely normal attire indicating that they may have mis-interpreted that the 'Wild West' was Gipsyville or Boothferry Estate. Most certainly west, but not entirely wild. Hopefully, next year, we can push for a near perfect show of costumes.

This time, I donned some black jeans, a nice black shirt, long leather coat, black cowboy hat and black shoes. I thought I was not too dissimilar to Van Helsing but I think I was mistakenly identified for a common undertaker or local councillor. The event is a very serious one with members growing facial hair to look more authentic. And I must give my congratulations to both Di and Sally for pulling that one off with remarkable accuracy and speed. A shooting range was provided with authentic replica's of 1930's beer bottles and bean tins. A hangmans noose was present for the most annoying person, as well as pretty authentic WANTED posters and decor within the bar area.

The DJ for the evening did us proud. Totally making the event by playing western classics like 'You Raise Me Up' by Westlife, saloon gems like 'Material Girl' by Madonna. The song that all spitoon participants relish, 'Rule The World' by western supremo's Take That, that bird Loena Lewis who's 'Bleedin' Love' on quite a regular basis that by now she'd surely need a transfusion. Oh, and I better not forget, that old southern classic 'Cotton-eye Joe' by The Rednecks. Food was fine with a selection of mash and sausage. I think our hosts were given fore-warning to avoid fried beans and this seemed proven by the negative attitude of the toilet paper dispensers in the gents. Black Sheep ale was the drink of choice and I must say, that our hosts indeed know how to look after there ale as it was perfect. Black Sheep tending to be quite easily spoiled by rough handling in the cellar. So top marks to the landlord/lady and their staff for great beer.

I got a slight feeling that one or two members were a little camera shy. Especially by the amount of tongues pulled out, the fists waved and people hiding their faces, but they must have been on best behaviour as a bar brawl didn't happen. I just got hanged instead. Luckily, prior to my demise, I managed to miss being pulled off onto the dance floor, or being jailed for fraternising with Adam the horse rusler and avoiding the sword of Samuri Sam.
(Or was he Yosemite Sam from those Bugs Bunny Cartoons).

I'd just like to say many many thanks for giving me an invite to this event. I was indeed honoured to be asked to be a part of this fantastic evening, to be with people I call friends even though I had a few moments on our holiday where I appeared miserable. Here, I have added some photographs from the night. As usual, clicking on any of the small thumbnails, will bring up a larger version of that image.
